The brave Muslims who stopped another massacre of Christians by Al Shabaab terrorists in Mandera continue to receive accolades around the country for their exemplary act which has won the hearts of many.
The heroic Muslims who refused to be separated with their Christian brothers and sisters by Al Shabaab instilled fear in the militants forcing them to flee the scene without causing a bloodbath like they did last year.
But how did the Muslims manage to shield their Christian counterparts from Al Shabaab?
Well, according to the 46 year old Shukri Farah, who was the driver of the bus, Muslims lent Christians hijabs and caps.
Some other Christians were hidden under the seats and covered with bags just to confuse the terrorists.
“I told Muslims sister who had hijabs to give them to non-Muslims. The ones who had not covered their hair got shukas to do so in the darkness of the bus while the Al Shabaab militias were trying to nudge the door open,” said Farah.
Other Muslims like Abdirashid Adan, 19, told the Al Shabaab that the passengers in the bus were all Muslims and that they should either kill them all or leave them at once.
“I told them: But we are all Muslims my brother. I just kept saying that because I knew if I said anything different, they would kill a lot of people,” said Adan.
Their stories were corroborated James Ouma, a Christian, who narrated how Muslims shielded them.
“When I heard the saying they wanted non-Muslims to step aside, I knew my end had come. Then I heard Muslims protecting us and some even gave their caps to those of us who had none. I realized we were together in this,” narrated Ouma.
